What Makes The Best Gluten-Free Pretzel Bites?

Relatively speaking, this is an easy recipe to master. There aren’t many intricacies to making the best gluten-free pretzel bites. To me, it’s ALL ABOUT TEXTURE. These bite size pretzels are no good if you mess up the texture.

I know I’ve perfected this recipe when my pretzel bites are:

  • Golden brown on the outside
  • Crispy on the bottom
  • Soft and warm on the inside
  • Topped with extra salt
  • Dipped in my favorite sauces

The criteria for perfecting this recipe have to do with texture. Taste will be consistent, texture makes them addicting.

I’ve talked a lot about how easy this recipe is to make. If it’s so easy, how come most restaurants don’t serve them? In the next section, we’ll dive deeper into the harsh reality of being gluten-intolerant.

The Reality Of Gluten-Free Appetizers

I’ll be honest, it’s hard ordering appetizers at restaurants. The appetizers we all know and love rarely have gluten-free options (onion rings, mozzarella sticks, friend pickles, etc). Restaurants still haven’t made the full switch to accommodate gluten intolerant folks, but that’s okay because we make things from scratch!

Since I can’t always enjoy the appetizers at restaurants, I’ve developed a passion for making them at home. This gluten-free pretzel bite recipe is one of my favorite recipes to make when hosting a party or looking for a quick and easy snack.

Maybe I’ll share the recipe with a few restaurants (LOL). Regardless, it only takes a few ingredients to make this recipe. Let’s dive into it.

Ingredients Needed For Gluten-Free Pretzel Bites

There aren’t many ingredients needed to make these amazing salty pretzel bites. Let’s take a look at the items you need:

Pretzel Bites

  • 1 cup plain Greek yogurt
  • 3 tablespoons melted butter
  • 2 tablespoons organic honey
  • 1 1/4 cup gluten-free flour I use Bob’s Mill 1 to 1 baking flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoons sea salt

Topping

  • 1 egg for egg wash topping
  • everything bagel seasoning top to taste
  • extra sea salt top to taste

How To Make Gluten-Free Pretzel Bites

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F. Line your favorite baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Mix together wet ingredients in a large bowl until fully mixed (melted butter, Greek yogurt, and honey).
  3. Add in dry ingredients and mix until combined (GF flour, baking powder, and sea salt).
  4. Set-up cutting board surface and sprinkle flour to roll dough.
  5. Place dough onto surface and gently divide dough into equal portions (4-6 equal portions). If you’re dough is sticking to your cutting board surface, simply add another sprinkle of flour. Don’t add too much extra flour as the dough will begin to crack.
  6. Roll your equally divided dough sections into logs (about 6″ long and 1″ wide). Brush each log with your whisked egg wash.
  7. Using your sharp knife, slice each log into equal 1″ pieces.
  8. Add 1″ pretzel bite pieces to your baking sheet and sprinkle with everything bagel seasoning (to taste) and sea salt (to taste).
  9. Bake for 18-22 minutes until browned.
  10. Serve with your favorite pretzel dipping sauce and enjoy!

How To Store Your Leftovers

Couldn’t eat all of your pretzel bites? ALL GOOD! These pretzel bites keep well and are delicious the next day. They make an amazing mid-day snack.

When looking to store your leftover pretzel bites, simply find your favorite refrigerator safe container and keep them stored away in the fridge. They are good 48-72 hours after making, but I doubt they’ll last that long!
