What Makes The Best Homemade Gluten-Free Bagel?

Not many bakeries offer a gluten-free bagel. That’s just the truth. Because of that, the only time I get to enjoy a bagel is when I make it from scratch. Through my bagel making experience, I’ve landed on a few specific criteria I must meet to make the best homemade gluten-free bagels.

I’ve perfected this recipe when the bagels are:

  • Golden brown on the outside
  • Soft and warm on the inside
  • Topped with my current craving (usually everything bagel seasoning)

It’s a simple list to master and when you nail it, you know. If you follow the steps outlined below and in our Tide & Thyme recipe card, you’ll be well on your way to making the best gluten-free bagel.

Storing Your Leftovers

If you DO NOT eat all of your bagels in one sitting, I have a few tips for you. After baking and storing in the fridge, these bagels can get a bit soggy due to the soft, warm inside. I recommend letting your gluten-free bagels cool 100% before putting them in the fridge.

Additionally, I recommend slicing them in half before storing if you prefer your bagel sliced. Reason being, it can be hard to cut your bagel if it does become a bit soggy. They can end up falling apart.

Don’t hear what I’m not saying, these bagels can ABSOLUTELY be stored and enjoyed the next day. You just need to prep them before storing. When you’re looking to enjoy your gluten-free bagel the next day, pop it in the toaster already sliced and enjoy!
